GWA Youth World Championship

La Ballena Alegre Sailing Club will host the GWA Costa Brava 2025 World Youth Championship, scheduled from 30 June to 6 July 2025.

This competition will draw international attention to the emerging discipline of Wing Foil, an innovative and dynamic sport that redefines the boundaries of traditional surfing, windsurfing and kitesurfing. By combining a Wing with a board equipped with a Foil, athletes can achieve fast takeoffs and smooth, low-friction gliding on the water.

The Wing Foil has gained remarkable popularity, especially among young enthusiasts who have adopted this exciting new class of sailing. With rapid and promising growth, Wing Foil is positioning itself as a potential Olympic sailing discipline for the 2028 Los Angeles Games, cementing its status as one of the most revolutionary and exciting classes in today’s sailing world.

The GWA World Youth Championship will feature two main disciplines:

1. Surf-Freestyle: A combination of surfing waves or tides with spectacular aerial tricks that take advantage of the water conditions.
2. FreeFly-Slalom: A format that combines technical elements of Slalom with sections where participants must surf, glide or pump without the support of the Wing.
